This week in class we examined a great example of a rebranded product which never actually altered the product – Diamond Shreddies!  What is another example you can think of where a company altered their advertising to improve sales without changing the actual product at all?

  1. One example of this is the way Lucky Charms advertises it´s product. After a certain amount of time, they add new marshmallows to the combination, sort of like a special edition figure, which makes their sales go up.

  2. An example of a company changing their advertisements without changing their product is itunes. They release giftcards but have different commercials for each category. For example one ad may have a person purchasing music with it while another has someone purchasing games. By doing this apple doesnt actually change the function of their gift cards but shows how consumers can use their cards for a variety of things. This attracts a wide variety of consumers who are intrested in different things.

  3. An example of a product where they rebranded it but didn’t change it at all would be coca cola. They rebranded their pop by created new covers for their bottles / cans and made them limited addition but the actual product itself did not change at all. They made the product more appealing on the front which makes the customers want to buy it more.

  5. An example is old spice deodorant . Before the very popular commercials and deodorant, old spice was known as a normal , uninteresting brand. Old spice decided to not change their product but the commercials. They added a NFL player Isaiah Mustafa as the old guy and made interesting commercials which were seductive and fun. By changing the face of the company to a young man and also changing how they marketed the product the company improved sales without alterations.

  6. One brand that is known for doing this is coca cola. They are known to roll out new marketing plans and different designs on their product quite often. They never actually change the product only the visual appearance of the product. One of their most recent attempts at this was adding names too the cans to make them more personalized.

  7. The Iphone SE is a recent example of a rebranding product. When the Iphone 6 was released, many people were not used to its much bigger screens, and many consumers still chose the Iphone 5s over the iphone 6. Recently, Apple released the Iphone se, stands for “special edition”. It has the same look as a Iphone 5s, but has the specs of an Iphone 6s. This improve the sales as people who still enjoyed using smaller phones can benefit from the up-to-date specs.

They improved there sales because customers were interested in how they could make Pepsi taste the same when it is clear. So customers were very curious and they wanted to buy the product. They may of changed the colour and the logo but the product is the exact same.

  13. A product that was re-branded without being changed was the products and reputation of McDonald’s. The documentary “Supersize Me” had a major effect on the company as people started to see the true health risks behind fast foods and how it simply is not good for you in large amounts. McDonald’s has since become a health friendly restaurant in order to give customers the choice to purchase a healthier item such as a salad or wrap from their menus to prove that they are not all about fatty burgers and greasy fries. This has been incredibly positive for the company due to the fact that they have seen growth in sales ever since and are constantly continuing to re-brand themselves and improve their image even more in order to attract more demographics and suit more lifestyles and preferences. McDonald’s as become healthier, and with that their sales and growth has also improved. They have even improved their 4 P’s, with their promotions, prices, places, and products all becoming better and more appealing to the customer which in turn will be beneficial to the company.

  14. Another company that altered their advertising and turned the company around is Burberry. It was originally founded as a small brand in England, specializing in trench coats. As time went on, it was seen as frumpy, outdated, or even as gang wear. But after 2001 they got a new creative director and they started advertising with high profile celebrities wearing their clothing, such as Kate Moss and Emma Watson, and their clothing was seen as more attractive and desirable.

By producing reliable and elegantly designed products such as the iMac, iPods, and iPads, Apple became a juggernaut in technology. Nearly every product released has been an instant hit, and every move Steve Jobs make drove media frenzy.
