Post 3A: Enactus Debrief

Throughout much of term 2 we worked on developing our Enactus project – a sustainable business idea put into action.  When undertaking such a large project as this, it’s important to reflect back on the things that went well, not so well, and what we may have done differently if we had the opportunity again.  In thinking about the Enactus experience, from conception to development, sales, and the final presentation, what would you have done differently?  What went well?  What didn’t?  How could you improve upon the experience if students were to do it again next year?

  1. the enactus project was a great way for us to learn the process of creating a product and making a business. we saw how it is not as simple as it may seem and it takes a long and difficult process to be able to put a product or service on the market. The development of a market plan was something that benefited everyone as it is something that many of us could use in the future if we were to create a product.
The issue with our product was the functionality of it, as it was a difficult product to make and wasnt something that interested many students at handsworth.

  2. something good that i think we did was stay within our price range for all the materials we purchased, we didn’t go over budget which was a good thing. Something that i think that we didn’t do well was the sales and the way we sold them, and i also don’t think we had enough time to create the bags which meant they didn’t turn out as well as we thought we would. I think that for next time, if we had more time we would be able to create and sell our product better.

  3. Personally, I think we needed more time to produce the actual product because only some turned out to be at least “ok” to sell and we didn’t sell any really and i feel like it was because they were very rushed. we also didnt have good advertising about our sales. we needed a table in the gal with big signs and stuff not just someones walking around.

  4. The Enactus presentations were interesting and the project was well thought out but personally the idea we chose wasn’t thought up and executed well. There wasn’t much room for profit and we spent more time on it than it was worth. If i were to choose a new project it would be more in demand and i would want to make it much less obvious that the product is recycled.

  5. I believe that what worked was we had a good product. What didn’t work as well was our manufacturing was very bad and our sales were terrible. In the future, I think we should have had a group of people that were good at manufacturing to make the bags so that they looked good and sell-able. Then have a separate group to help market and sell the bags. I believe this way our bags would look better and we would have a good sales plan instead of our walk around the gallery and hope someone buys our product.

  6. I think we should have put more effort into making the product, because it looked poorly made, specially for what we were charging for it. I was part of the sales team, and the main reason why people would’t buy the product from me was because they said they didn’t think it was worth the 5 bucks we were charging for it. This was mainly because we didn’t get much time to do them, and I also think we were missing unity in our product, since every single bag was completely different and the prices varied too much, which I think affected the way people perceived our product. Overall, we did a pretty decent job, but I do believe we could’ve done something better. Maybe with more effort and time put into it things would’ve been different.

  7. Overall the enactus project was executed quite well . I would have chosen a different product in the first place probaly. Even though it was a sustainable product, each bag was varying in quality and was to expensive to make with not enough sales coming in. I feel like we succeeded in finding a sustainable product , presenting it well and also developing it with a fun vision .

  8. Enactus was a very enriching experience and it was very enjoyable to participate in the presentation at the enactus competition. Something that we did well was having our initial idea which was creative and innovative. However, we could have used recycled wrappers instead of purchasing them, as well as following directions more carefully for the sewing so not to waste as much fabric and zippers.

  9. Our presentation and ideas are good, but our sales were depressingly terrible. Due to our products sloppy quality, our sales did not break even. Over all the project was bad, if I give our products a rating, it would be a 0.5 star out of 5.

  10. I think it was good, we sold almost all of the product which shows that the people like the product or they really want to help, I think for the next time will be better if we change the product and make something easier to do, something better and with a better presentation

  11. i think the enactus project was presented really nicely. however, the product was really long to make it it took a large amount of time and eventually it wasn’t really profitable. infact it took a large amount of work for a product that couldn’t be sold for more than 2$. moreover, some bags were damaged and not many people would buy them. all in all, i would have thought more about the product but the presentation went smoothly so the only advice for the students of next year is to think more about a product that sells well.

  12. The Enactus project was well done and presented, Working with with grade 8 students are very joyful. Royal Wrappers was a pretty good project through out the business idea and the way of making them. it is a convenient bag that casue no harm to the society. If i can a make a difference to this project is to think and discuss more with classmates and make a better business idea.

  13. The price was too high. People generally wouldn’t pay more than $2 for ‘garbage’, therefore we didn’t sell as much as we could’ve. We couldn’t break even .The presentation was done well but that’s about it.

  14. Throughout the Enactus project, our class did a good job on getting together to produce Royal Wrappers with the grade 8 students, and also preparing and executing the presentation in the end. If there is something that I would have done differently, it would be the business idea and we could have used more time to come up with a more approachable product. For me personally, I could have improve my parts of the presentation by being more relaxed and prepared.

  15. Some things that did not go well were the costs that it took to make the product. It cost way too much to make it so it was very hard to make profit. Also the product looked trashy because we weren’t very good at making the bags. The product actually wasn’t that sustainable because we had to make the bags with perfectly opened candy bars. we couldn’t make them out of candy wrappers that we just found in the trash. We should pick a product which isn’t as hard to make. Callum M

  16. i would have chosen a different product to create and sell. the creativity did well in the process of making and selling the candy bags. what didnt go well was making them since they required sewing machines which most students didnt know how to use. to improve it for students next year, i would have a better way of deciding what product the entire class would be doing

  17. I feel like our product was good and appealed to our target audience, however i feel like we did not create enough bags. Our product took every student at least a couple of classes to finish and every student only made 1, so even if we did make profit it would have been very minor. What went well was when we were selling the product in the gallery because we got to show our product to a large amount of students. We could improve next year by making more products.

  18. Regarding the Enactus experience, from conception to development, sales, and the final presentation, I would have considered the product a bit more. The audience, being mainly students and some teachers, a candy bag was not the best choice. Due to the audience not liking the item, our sales were poor, and our break-even point wasn’t even met. The only thing that went well was the presentation, our group performed our presentation smoothly. The production and product could have been improved.

  19. I think the product was the main product not for the product itself but for how hard it actually was to make it, most of the bags were damaged or not looking nice. another problem was that it took long for the class to get all the products. But at the end we sold almost all of them so the sales and the profit wasn’t bad… For next year they should make a product easier to make and a bigger sales team.
