Post 3E: Nike

Last week in class we took a behind the scenes glimpse into what mega corporation Nike is all about.  From labour issues, to production methods and its marketing machine, Nike offers a remarkable case study into so many different facets of business.  What do you think Nike is the most effective at as a business?  What do you think they could still improve upon most?  Provide an example for each, as well as evidence to support your position.  You can use examples from the film, or find new evidence online to support your assertion.

  1. Nike is very strong at advertisement and effective because they are known all over the world and they are probably the most sold brand of shoes. And they need to improve their quality of the shoe rather than releasing new forms.

  2. Nike has done a great job at making a name for themselves by signing and working with both athletes and artists. Nike has made shoes with many people such as Lebron James and Kobe Bryant and always making new deals. They also have musical artists such as Drake who have their own color ways on shoes. Something nike could improve on is the quality of the products they produce. Though many products have a high price tag they often don’t last as long as many people believe they should.

  3. I think Nike is the most effective at being an icon and relevant. It does this through it’s Jordan line. Almost everyone knows what Jordans are. Also they have built their brand n a way that makes consumers think that Nike is the best product. Athough Nike has been succesful making shoes for athletes I think they could sart working on shoes for style. Currently Adidas has been able to make shoes that people would pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars for but Nike hasn’t been able to achieve this with their other lines of shoes that aren’t Jordans. Nike is respectable because they have stayed true to their image of athletic wear.

  4. I think that nike is best at selling their products by creating eye-catching ads and commercials for their products. Nike uses a lot if famous people in their ads, and for people who like those famous people, they get influenced by them and want to the product. I think that nike needs to improve on their quality of their products, their quality isn’t too bad but i think with better quality they will have better sales.

  5. Nike is very good at advertising themselves. They aways are seen at some sort or sporting event on someone. They have very slick and clean stores/ products, as well as the quality is really good. A thing they could improve on is that i do know they have very narrow shoes, and guys with wider feet can’t always comfortably were their shoes. Therefor make the mens she’s wider.

Nike is an extremely successful company that has mad its name through various years of smart marketing, this includes the way they present their brand to the public and how they advertise it, as they have made well thought decisions regarding celebrity endorsements, designs, and sponsors. I mean, the fact that they have people going crazy about limited editions sneakers talks about how they have made a great name for themselves and how they have adapted succesfully to what their costumers are looking each year. However, as seen in the video in class, they have poorly managed their company in terms of production, since they have been accused of exploration and mistreatment of their employees, which I think its a very important part of how the company portrays itself to its buyers, therefore it is necessary for Nike to fix this issues as quickly as possible.

  7. Nike’s advertising is there strongest quality. All of their shoots are very professional, they have countless celebrity endorsements, many athletic teams have a partnership with Nike and wear the brand for uniform.
    They need to work on their locations, as there are only 2 stores in Vancouver. One in west van, and one downtown. There are more in BC but there should be more in Vancouver as it is the heart of BC.

  8. Nike are known around the world as they are iconic, and they are truly great at keeping up with the times, as well as keeping the originals ad the classics being offered to the market. They can target their products to all demographics and have extremely large and various target markets. Nike is not a monopoly but they are definable the greatest when it comes to endorsements, as they are one of the highest paying companies to be a representative figure of. Nike is almost impossible to ignore as no matter what they do, people still seem to buy their shoes and have done so forever due to the loyalty and support they show to the company. Nike also supports all types of communities over the world, and strive to be an environmentally friendly company.

  9. I think nike is most effective through there brand and their advertising. They have made a brand that is recognizable all over the world. They have done this by using Celebrity endorsements, sponsors and there classics slogans. Nike is a very simple brand that looks sleek and athletic. I think they need to work on the quality of the clothing.

  10. I think Nike is so effective as a company because of several things. First of all they have built a great reputation in the sporting community as a reliable company that is pushing the limits of sports. Second of all the sign the best and most popular athletes for example lebron, Ronaldo, Federer, Durant and others. They could still improve on their production of the shoe and how there workers are treated. We saw how some factories treated the employees poorly in the nike movie.

  11. Nike is a very successful brand, and I believe that it is probably most effective at having their name out there and having a reputation for being a quality sport brand. They are almost comparable to apple and samsung, in that most people either have Nike or Adidas runners, but Nike holds more popularity.

They also use slogans such as just do it to help spread word of their brand across the world. I think they need to improve on factory conditions and making sure their workers are satisfied.

I think Nike is the most effective brand using the most famous athletes of the moment, or the most historic ones in all kind of different sports, this a reason why nike is one of the biggest brands ever. I think nike should improve the quality and updated in fashion, making a new range of “fashion shoes” this will help to the people who really like Nike in the Sport part and they can start to buy NIke for other ocassions.

  15. Nike’s advertisement is their most effective marketing method. they sponsor athletes and feature them in their ads. By using this method, audiences are more likely to choose Nike over other brands, because they feel more related. In the film, the brand Jordan was Nike’s biggest asset beside Nike’s mainline, which the brand used Michael Jordan to advertise it proves that their ads work.

  16. I believe that Nike is the best company when it comes to advertising their product. It seems that for almost every sport they make products for they have most of the top players in the game, which really helps sales. Take basketball for example, they have arguably the best player of all time in Micheal Jordan. Plus they have great players in our time like Lebron, Kobe and Westbrook. I think one thing they need to improve on is their public image. After the information came out about Nike’s sweatshops, they have not been viewed in the same light. They have started to improve their public image, but I believe the company could do even better. Paying the employees in the factories a bit more will not really affect them in the long run. Plus this would help how customers view their company worldwide.

I think the area where Nike is the most effective as a business is with their celebrity endorsements with other major league athletes, the biggest example being Michael Jordan, with having him in commercials, as well as creating a whole brand of shoe for him. One thing Nike could improve on is their image and how they look with their labour issues in Vietnam, however, they have started to paint a better picture on how they look on the media but it still could use improvement.   18. I think Nike is the most effective at creating new varieties and collaborations with various artists. By doing so, they draw attention to their brand and to the artist, giving them PR for a small price. An example would be their Yeezy x Nike collabs. I think Nike can improve by creating items that appeal to more than just a few demographics. So far, they’ve appealed to Basketball and Skateboarding extensively, but their other sectors are lacklustre, and are not bought as frequently as the brands that specialize in those sectors.

  19. I think that Nike has done the best job in their marketing including celebrity endorsements and the frequent use of different medias. When some of the most popular sports stars are wearing Nike gears, their young fans will definitely choose Nike if they are in need of a pair of shoes. However, Nike can still improve on the quality of their products and also to pay their employees better. According to the video, a pair of Nike selling for 100 dollars, 20 dollars are given to Asian factories and only a small portion are distributed to its employees. This is where Nike could have done better and separate themselves from its competitors.

I think Nike is one of the best company in the world to spread products, whatever country you go to, you’ll see people wearing nike, they are known all over the world and they are probably the most sold brand of shoes. But they could still improve on their labor process, not all the workers are happy about their jobs, there is still a lot of complaining from the workers in the factories, they are stressed about it, the managers yell at them and they are underpaid.

    Endorsements – Nike has spent huge sums of money to attract and hold the most iconic athletes in the world to be the face of the brand in action.
    Culture – Nike has consistently amplified its voice through provocative entries into pop culture through entertainment and social issues.

  22. Nike is most effective at branding and advertisement they’ve made a worldwide recognizable brand through sponsoring players, slogans, and celebrity endorsed advertisements. What I think they need to improve on is quality and making what the customer actually wants rather than just releasing things that will sit on shelves and eventually end up at outlets.
